Lando Norris fulfills its Formula 1 dream and wins the British Grand Prix from Silverstone-also because McLaren-Rival-Rival Oscar Piatri collects a punishment from the racing commissioners.
In your sport.de-F1 expert Christian Danner and RTL data analyst Steffen Kosuch explain to the brief, which is behind the punishment and whether it was justified. They also appreciate Nico Hülkenberg’s Parforceritt.
Lando Norris is the new king of Silverstone. In a difficult Formula 1 race with changing route conditions, he remained flawless and deservedly won in front of a home crowd.
Norris initially started behavior from starting place and waited for his chances – and they came. Polesetter Max Verstappen was severely restricted on slippery slopes by his setup geared towards low downforce-ideal for the sensational pole round on Saturday. The Dutch had no chance in the Red Bull, had to let Oscar Piatri, later also to be steeped in Norris.
The McLaren Festival at the top was soon opened, for Verstappen, only damage was announced for Verstappen at the latest at the RE-START as a result of a juice-car phase in round 21. The defending champion struggled through the traffic, and was still fifth over the finish line.

At the top, World Cup leader Piatri initially clearly gave the tone, but the Saftey Car started the problems of the Australian. His sovereign lead of 15 seconds was gone – but it came even thicker.
As usual, Piatri accelerated and slowed down several times as usual to get temperature into its tires. During his last “cycle”, however, the juice lights’ warning lights went out: the sign for the drivers that the re-start takes place at the end of the round.
The regulations stipulate that the drivers fail to drive the lights of the lights from the lights and prepare for the re-start.
Did Piatri really “unpredictable”?
Verstappen, who was directly behind Piatri at the time, was surprised by its last braking process and briefly “overtook” the McLaren. The Red Bull star then had to fall behind, which in turn confused his re-start-maybe even the reason for Verstappen Dreher shortly afterwards.
The racing commissioners immediately analyzed the scene and rated Piatris as “unpredictable brakes”. Consequence: a 10-second penalty that Piatri in the box and that cost him the victory.
Was this punishment justified? In this question, a look at Piatris speed in the critical 21st round (red line) is exciting compared to that from round 17 (green line), in which a RESTART also was available after Safety Car. It turns out that Piatri did not slow down and accelerate anything unusual, but to a very similar extent.

The actual question is at what point in time the lights of the Safety Cars went out-and whether Piatri was already in his warm-up cycle and how quickly he reacted.
We cannot assess this without doubt, but should trust the stewards. However, video images from the race indicate that Piatri had already started to slow down when the Pace-Car lights went out. There remains a little gnschmäckle.
Hülkenberg coup occupies clean-up swing
Behind the McLaren was announced in Silverstone Sensation. First, Lance Stroll was three to five in front of Ferrari star Lewis Hamilton in Aston Martin, Nico Hülkenberg (clean) and Alpine pilot Pierre Gasly on the places.
Gasly was the first to be the first to go and say goodbye to this group. Hülkenberg clawed the Aston Martin von Stroll in round 34, but only a round later also managed Hamilton.

In the last 17 rounds there was the struggle for the podium between Hülkenberg and the record champion, which the German won thanks to a sensational journey. His overdue first podium is also a strong sign that has improved cleanly. Strategically, the Swiss delivered a perfect performance in the Home of British Motor Racing.
