As a long-time Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc is used to a lot on box radio. In his career in the Reds, the Monegasse received the long -legendary “We are checking!” Punketed on the ear – but since the Grand Prix of Australia on Sunday there have been new star in the sky of the Ferrari radio sayings.
In round 25 of the rain racing, Leclerc reports on the box radio and asks: “Do we have a leak?” His engineer hooks: “A leak of what?” Leclerc: “I have the seat full of water, so, full of water.” As a result, Leclerc’s engineer replies: “Must be the water.”
While laughter in the commentator boxes and in front of the TV umbrellas breaks worldwide, the Monegasse reacts quick-witted: “Let us add it into the words of wisdom.”
For the Formula 1 fans who have a lot of fun with communication, the scene is of course a feast, it goes on social media viral even during the race. If there is no winning cup, Ferrari brings a new meme from Australia.
Leclerc believes in the drinking system: “Was nothing more there”
Alone: Whether it was a result of the rains, or had another reason, Leclerc cannot answer that even after getting out: “Oh, I have no idea what it was, but I was completely soaked. It was so much water,” he says – and gives his theory prize: “I think it was the drinking system, because when I wanted to drink in the next round.”
But that is probably still the smallest problem on a Sunday, which is disappointing for the Scuderia: at the finish, it is only enough for him to be eighth, two positions in front of Stallmarten Lewis Hamilton. The Ferrari stars are even briefly flushed forward by the weather caps in Down Under, but the team cannot end up with it in the end.
“It was definitely a missed opportunity, especially on such changeable conditions in which you have to score despite the lack of a pace. We did not succeed today,” Leclerc is annoyed, and exhibits a disastrous testimony to his team: “At the beginning of the race, we were not quick enough than it was rather uneventful. And the moment when it was important to make the right decision.”
However, the 27 -year -old also grabs his own nose: “The first mistake that you have to encounter is my – my slip in curve eleven. This has lost four or five positions. That put us in an unfavorable starting point,” says Leclerc, who believes: “If I hadn’t made this mistake, we might have been third or fourth, which would have been the maximum.”
“Compared to McLaren and Max clearly too slow”
However, the Ferrari pilots even reached the finish line behind their already mixed starting places in series four. In any case, Leclerc is served after the Grand Prix, especially since he believes: “I don’t think that we learned a lot of new things today. The conditions were so special that it is difficult to draw concrete knowledge from it.”
Ferrari’s weak shape should continue to give up the team before China: “We were clearly too slow compared to the McLaren and Max. We will analyze that, but it was definitely a difficult day for us,” says the Scuderia star. Although the intermediates were “at a similar level as the Mercedes before us”, “but that was it,” said Leclerc: “McLaren and Red Bull were much faster.”
The strong pace of the Papaya-Rennner headaches is primarily prepared by the World Cup in the previous year, after all, he has already noticed that McLaren was able to deliver “impressive times”. Leclerc: “My engineer didn’t give me the lap times of the McLaren once during the race, I think they were just too far away.”
But his engineer told him a different wisdom on Sunday …
