Lewis Hamilton is just happy that the 2025 Formula 1 season is over. The record world champion has announced a tough break and wants to completely do without a technical device.

To put it mildly: Lewis Hamilton’s Formula 1 year at Ferrari wasn’t particularly good. The Brit was miles behind his own demands and those of the Scuderia. Frustration interviews, tears and disappointing statements ended the year for the Ferrari driver.

The statements “worst season” and “nightmare” were also mentioned.

Now the 40-year-old is simply longing for Formula 1’s winter break. “At the moment I’m just looking forward to the break,” said Hamilton after the Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi. There he fought his way from 16th on the grid to eighth place.

“I just want to switch off and talk to no one. No one will be able to reach me this winter. I won’t have my cell phone with me and I’m looking forward to it. I’ll completely disconnect from the Matrix.”

Formula 1: Will Hamilton even come back in 2026?

He confirmed that he had never been without a smartphone for so long. “No, I usually always have it with me. But this time it’s going in the damn trash can!” he said of his planned non-cell phone time.

For the first time ever in his career, the Brit failed to achieve a podium finish in an F1 season. In the last four qualifying sessions he was eliminated in Q1. He finished the World Championship rankings in sixth place, directly behind his teammate Charles Leclerc. However, the Monegasque collected 86 more points and was on the podium seven times.

After the season finale, he left his future in the premier motorsport class open. “I don’t think about the future either. Right now I’m just thinking about Christmas and spending time with the family.”

This is also why there are doubts in the paddock as to whether the Englishman will follow his first year at the Scuderia with a second one. New regulations will apply in 2026, drives and cars will be redeveloped, this is Hamilton’s chance for a fresh start – but no guarantee.
