The French Formula 1 racing team Alpine has secured the services of Argentine racing driver Franco Colapinto. Starting next season, the 21-year-old will initially be a test driver and one of the reserve drivers. What is clear with the personnel, which had already been speculated about, is that the pressure on newcomer Jack Doohan will be increased significantly.

After an elimination race, the 21-year-old Australian was given preference over Mick Schumacher, who is only competing for Alpine in the endurance world championship this year. According to media reports, Jack Doohan’s contract will initially only guarantee him the first six races of the upcoming season.

Contract for several years

He replaces Frenchman Esteban Ocon, who moved to Haas. His compatriot Pierre Gasly is in the other Alpine cockpit.

Colapinto made his racing debut in the premier motorsport class in the middle of last season. He competed in nine Grand Prix for Williams and showed off his skills several times, and he immediately attracted fans from Argentina to the tracks. However, Colapinto also caused costly accidents. According to the announcement, his contract with Alpine is valid for several years.
