Formula 1: Alonso pushes himself between the bulls

The start of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia also brought a three-way battle between the Red Bull duo and ex-champion Fernando Alonso.

World champion Max Verstappen turned the fastest lap in the second free practice session in 1:29.603 minutes, Aston Martin driver Alonso was second and only two tenths behind. Only behind did Sergio Pérez in the second Red Bull with a minimal gap.

The trio also finished on the podium at the season opener in Bahrain, with Alonso finishing third behind Verstappen and Perez.

Before the second race in Jeddah on Sunday (6:00 p.m. CET / Sky), the first impression was confirmed: the cars of Aston Martin, Sebastian Vettel’s former team, are now among the fastest in the field. Alonso’s teammate Lance Stroll was seventh.

Mercedes knocked off – Hülkenberg convinced

George Russell (5th) and Lewis Hamilton (11th) had nothing to do with the top in the Mercedes, and Ferrari only moved in midfield with Charles Leclerc (9th) and Carlos Sainz (10th). The duo ended up behind Nico “Hulk” Hulkenberg.

The returnee impressed again in the Haas, finished eighth and was around 0.7 seconds faster than his teammate Kevin Magnussen (15th).
