The chapter Christian Horner is finally history at Red Bull. After several media first reported on Monday that the former Formula 1 team boss and the company had agreed at the negotiating table and resolved the contract that was valid until 2030 in return for a loss of millions, Red Bull officially confirmed the separation at noon.

Christian Horner and Red Bull’s years of liaison has ended. After weeks of negotiations by the lawyers, the two camps agreed on an early termination of the contract. The company announced this on Monday. The British working paper originally ran until the end of 2030.

Red Bull boss Oliver Mintzlaff praised Horner’s “extraordinary work in the past 20 years”.

With its tireless commitment, experience, expertise and innovative thinking, the Brit had a significant contribution to “establishing Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula 1”. For the 51-year-old Horner, it was “honor and privilege” to have managed Red Bull Racing.

Horner can look for a new Formula 1 team

It is not entirely clear how high the severance payment is, the Horner from Red Bull collects. The “Times” had reported up to 90 million euros, but the “BBC” puts the sum at around 60 million euros. The British broadcaster relies on an anonymous internal source.

Horner was the best paid team boss in Formula 1. From a previous Red Bull financial report, it can be seen that he already received just over ten million euros per season in the 2023 season. His salary is said to have been raised again in 2024.

Good for the 51-year-old: In addition to the compensation for millions, the contract resolution has the advantage that he could join another team promptly. It has already been associated with Alpine and Cadillac in the past few weeks.
