Setback in the 2nd round
Former world champion is thrown out of the Darts World Cup

“Barney” traveled to the Darts World Cup in London with great ambitions. But after just two rounds it was over for the former world champion.
Raymond van Barneveld was eliminated in the second round of the World Darts Championship in London. The 57-year-old Dutchman surprisingly lost 3-1 against Welshman Nick Kenny on Saturday and has to return home early.
Van Barneveld, world champion in 2007, never really found his way into the game and quickly fell behind 0-2 sets. Although he was still able to win a set, Kenny showed strong nerves and secured the deserved victory. This is not the first disappointing early exit for van Barneveld: he suffered similar defeats in the opening round in 2019 and 2020.
With his elimination, the Dutchman will miss a duel with defending champion Luke Humphries and will also fall out of the top 32 in the world rankings.
It’s a great success for Kenny, who will now face the world champion in the third round. Van Barneveld, on the other hand, will have to deal again with the question of what happens next after this bitter defeat.
