In the summer, Nicolás González received a lucrative offer from Brentford FC; AC Fiorentina could have earned around 41 million euros for the striker – but rejected it. Now the 25-year-old Argentine has extended his contract, which runs until 2026, for the long term. As the Viola announced, the national player is now tied until 2028. Conference League finalist González made the signature loudly Fabrizio Romano palatable with a raise.
“He is the key player for us. It is not for sale and will not come on the market,” said managing director Joe Barone at the end of August, referring to Brentford’s advertising. If sold, González would have become one of the most expensive departures in Fiorentina’s history, with only Dušan Vlahović (23), Federico Chiesa (24) and Rui Costa (51) generating higher transfer fees than those offered by the “Bees”.

Florence made González one of the most expensive departures from VfB Stuttgart in 2021, when 24.5 million euros flowed to Swabia. Since then, the offensive all-rounder, who has repeatedly struggled with injury problems, contributed 26 goals and 15 assists in 88 competitive games, qualified with the team twice for the Conference League and reached the final there last year, the 1-2 win against West Ham got lost. González increased his market value to 30 million euros at the end of last season – there could be the next upward adjustment in the Serie A interim update on October 11th (join the discussion here!).
