Former tennis star Martina Navratilova declared cancer free again | Sport

Martina Navratilova has been successfully treated for cancer. The 66-year-old former top tennis player said this in an interview with Piers Morgan on Tuesday TalkTV being broadcast. “I still have to undergo preventive radiation for two weeks, but then I’m done with it. The doctors have declared me cancer-free.”

Navratilova, an American of Czech origin, is one of the best tennis players of all time. The former world number one has won 59 Grand Slam tournaments, 18 in singles, including 9 Wimbledon, and 41 in doubles. Thirteen years ago she already conquered breast cancer. She then made a full recovery.

At the beginning of January, she announced that she had been diagnosed with breast and now throat cancer again. She was diagnosed in November after going to the doctor for a tumor in her neck. The cancer was discovered at an early stage, so there was a good chance of a cure.

,,But it didn’t feel that way at the time”, says Navratilova. “For days I was in total panic and I feared that it might be my last Christmas. The famous ‘bucket list’ played through my head: all the things I still wanted to do. Who else has two different cancers at the same time? Fortunately, giving up is not in my DNA. There was no option but to go ahead and fight it.”
