Ex-HSV sports director Stefan Kuntz is facing serious allegations after leaving the Hamburg Bundesliga club. The 63-year-old reacted on Sunday evening.

“I receive numerous inquiries about the current reporting about me. One thing is clear: I firmly reject these allegations!” wrote Kuntz in a statement on Instagram. The allegations hit him “hard”. On behalf of his family, he asked a law firm to take action against what he called “false allegations and previous convictions.”

Kuntz surprisingly agreed to terminate his contract with HSV last week. The official reason: “personal family” reasons. The chairman of the supervisory board, Michael Papenfuß, spoke of intensive discussions between Christmas and New Year.

“Bild”: Allegations of sexual harassment

One According to a report in the “Bild” newspaper, however, there is another reason behind Kuntz’s farewell in the Hanseatic city: it involves allegations of sexual harassment. As a result, an HSV employee reported to the supervisory board at the beginning of December. There were then internal investigations conducted by a law firm. Other women who work at the club were also questioned and further allegations were made.

The events seem to have led to the 63-year-old giving up his job at HSV.

Kuntz has a good sporting record at HSV

Kuntz took office at the Hanseatic League at the end of May 2024. Under the 1996 European champions, HSV managed to return to the Bundesliga at the seventh attempt. After promotion, he was responsible for a major personnel change, which, after careful analysis, he found to be unavoidable.

Although the 63-year-old got Hamburg back on track in terms of sport, the extension of his contract, which originally expired at the end of the season, was not a formality. Negotiations over a new working paper continued – until Kuntz finally asked for his contract to be terminated around the turn of the year.
