Former DBB coach Henrik Rödl takes over record champions

Former national basketball coach Henrik Rödl becomes coach of the Egyptian club Al Ittihad. This was announced by the club from Alexandria. Rödl is scheduled to start work on October 24th.

The 53-year-old was previously the coach of the Turkish first division club Türk Telekom SK in Ankara. First, the basketball magazine “Big” had reported.

Last year, Rödl and the German Basketball Association (DBB) split despite reaching the quarterfinals at the Tokyo Olympics. His successor was Gordon Herbert.

Rödl previously worked for TuS Lichterfelde, Alba Berlin and TBB Trier. The 1993 European champion took over as national coach in 2017.

According to the announcement, Al Ittihad wants to build on old successes again with Rödl’s commitment. The club won the Egyptian Super League 13 times and the cup 11 times.
