Foreign Affairs tightens Paris travel advice due to ‘possible new violent attacks’

The travel advice for Paris has been tightened due to a terrorist threat. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided this on Friday, writes the ANP news agency. The color code therefore changes from green to yellow: traveling to Paris is still possible, but there are risks. “Be aware of possible new violent attacks throughout France, and especially in Paris,” the ministry wrote.

Last weekend, a German tourist was killed in a stabbing in the French capital. Two others were injured. The suspect is a 26-year-old man who was on the terror list of the French security services and was previously sentenced to four years in prison for preparing an attack. He is known as a radical Islamist. French Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne wrote on X that it is a terrorist attack.

It threat level in France was already at the highest level since a teacher was stabbed to death at a school in the northern French town of Arras on October 13. France then decided to deploy seven thousand additional soldiers, part of the anti-terrorist unit Sentinelle, to conduct security patrols and secure public places. The color code remained green, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns travelers of possible demonstrations and writes that there is extra security at cultural and sporting events.
