Thomas Müller is eager for the play-offs with the Vancouver Whitecaps. In an interview he also revealed that he is planning his near future in Canada.
Before Thomas Müller enters the decisive phase of the MLS, the offensive player has clarified his future. The 36-year-old will also play for the Vancouver Whitecaps next season. “Yes – full attack,” answered the 2014 world champion in “Kicker” when asked whether he was planning another season in Canada. Initially his contract was limited to one year.
This means that there will be no return to Munich in the foreseeable future, where he could take on a position at FC Bayern after his career.
Müller quickly made a name for himself in Vancouver. He has caused a lot of excitement since his move in the summer. The most recent example: Around 55,000 spectators are expected at BC Place for the Major League Soccer quarterfinal game against Los Angeles FC on Sunday (3:30 a.m. CET).
Müller said: “There haven’t been any tickets for a few days, we have to get that done in the ice hockey country of Canada.”
With his experience and track record of 35 titles to date, Müller now also wants to attack in North America. After the play-off opener against Dallas, he emphasized: “We are ready for more.” Now he explained: “The Caps are well positioned in all areas. Now we want to surprise the well-known teams in the play-offs.”
The offensive player has the necessary ambition – and also his style. “I’m ready for it. It’s about the mess,” joked Müller.
On the pitch, like before at FC Bayern, he takes on a leadership role. “I give the team more naked truth between the lines than they were used to and sometimes would like,” he told “kicker”. There are moments when his teammates are “too nice on the pitch for my liking.”
Müller’s quota speaks for itself: he scored nine goals in ten games and prepared four more. In his newsletter he wrote: “For me personally, things are going really well. I can make full use of my qualities.” He also feels physically fit: his values are “at a very good level, almost identical to those of the last 15 years. Nothing has changed. So, full speed ahead, the engine is running.”
Before the duel with LAFC for Heung-Min Son, Müller also knows about the special dynamic of the knockout round: “Win or fly” is the motto. It’s like in the DFB Cup: “Go home, end of season – or move on.” The whole thing is like a “bit of gambling”.
The possible title has a high priority for Müller: “In the current context,” an MLS success has a “very great” value, he said: “It’s my here and now.”
