Football league is probably named after McDonald’s

So far the sponsor of the first French league is Uber Eats. That could change soon – for a sum of millions.

The first league in France is called Ligue 1 Uber Eats. But the namesake could soon change, as “RMC Sport” reports. Accordingly, the new sponsor for the coming season will be the American fast food giant McDonald’s. Ligue 1 President Vincent Labrune is said to have an offer.

According to the radio station, McDonald’s wants to enter France’s first football league – for a large sum. Accordingly, the company wants to pay 20 million euros per season over three seasons. According to the report, Uber Eats is said to have invested around 15 to 16 million euros per season so far.

New name – and league without Mbappé

Uber Eats has been the title sponsor of the French league since 2020. If the name changes next season, this would also coincide with the first season without Kylian Mbappé at Paris Saint-Germain.

The striker came to PSG from Monaco in 2018 and has been a top performer at the club and the league’s figurehead ever since. A few weeks ago, however, it emerged that the offensive star would not be extending his contract, which expires in June.

The French international will most likely move to Real Madrid. Spanish media reported this unanimously. The impending change sparks discussions. Mbappé last played against Monaco, but PSG coach Luis Enrique took him off the pitch earlier.

PSG will face Real Sociedad in the Champions League on Tuesday evening (from 9 p.m. in the t-online live ticker). Mbappé’s management told “RMC Sport”: “We respect the coach’s decisions and Kylian is fully focused on the journey to Real Sociedad.”
