Football club SC Cambuur has supporters called In order not to take the flag of the Netherlands to the game against FC Emmen on Friday evening. According to the Frisian football club, the action to take Dutch flags to Stadiums has received ‘a political charge’ and therefore belongs ‘not at home in the stadium’. SC Cambuur is the first club to make such a call.

After the murder of 17-year-old Lisa in Amsterdam, mid-August, football supporters through stadiums throughout the country showed the Dutch flag. Partly as a commemoration, but in several stadiums it went fluttering with the flags accompanied by slogans such as “azc, away with it” – Lisa was murdered by a resident of an AZC. Moreover, several supporters showed the very controversial prince flag. This orange-white-blue flag was the symbol of the NSB in the Second World War and is nowadays frequent in extreme right-wing groups.

SC Cambuur writes a Dutch flag that he cannot and want to prohibit, but hopes for the benevolence of its supporters. “As a professional football club, we are a reflection of society and our doors are wide open for everyone who has a warm heart for the club. We remember as a club of every political color and preference and we call on our supporters to do the same”.
