Flower Parade Zundert: First procession in full swing • At least 50,000 visitors

Neighborhood Laer-Akkermolen takes the audience to a mysterious nightly phenomenon. With this, the members bring an ode to the classic science fiction time. Not everything works as the members had wanted: due to technical problems, the UFO does not go up on the back of the car. That should not spoil the fun: the high car full of purple colors is still impressive to see.

‘Cirque du Planetarium’ is a very detailed, refined car where you will not be bored again. A gigantic stargazer and planets travel through the streets.

Five totems can be seen. The Totems are supernatural representatives of a mythically religious people. The extras bring the posts to life. The eyes change color.

On this car, nomads pull the world out of free will with their whole will and cut the world in search of fertile land for grain and green meadows for their cattle. This figure presents a virtuoso, a musician to be precise. The yellow color of the flowers is so bright that it seems almost fake, but this is completely natural. Everything moves again, including the fingers at the guitar. This neighborhood has only one designer. This 21-year-old designer came up with everything on his own.

This is ‘Davy Jones: Keeper of the Lost Souls’. Davy has the task of guiding the dead of those ships to the hereafter. The head of Davy is moving, he is looking for souls to take with you on the ship. All suits of the extras are also homemade here.

A musical experience in 3D form. What would music look like if you could actually see it? Striking: Klein-Zundertse Heikant is driving the parade electrically this year and has no pushers. The idea is that the car must float. All squares seem to move individually.

The phoenix of this neighborhood stands for resilience. The car is on fire, falls together and then comes back to life. The extras together form the fire. So much happens that you don’t know where to look. The car also gets hard applause from the public in the stands.

Everything runs smoothly at this neighborhood. Bright colors, happy faces and a touch of mischief: that is the lively play quarter. The children of Buurtschap Rijsbergen have chosen their favorite toys, who are now rolling through the streets of Zundert.

At least 50,000 visitors are present in Zundert, the organization says. Ticket sales of the stands went in record pace last week. The Corso not only attracts Dutch people, American and Japanese guests also came to the event.

A cheerful, youthful car from Buurtschap Veldstraat. A cowboy, knight, princess and many colors. Turn the heads, the hobby horses on which the figures are sitting up.

It is done with the peace. This neighborhood has been transformed into a robber gang, who, together with a large, mythical creature, take everything they can get hold of. Plunning they travel through the Zunderstraten.

The head of the beast is almost 6 meters long. The enormous teeth of the beast are also all made by hand. After a musical opening of the Pasveer Corps from Leeuwarden, the cars have left.

Neighborhood Stuivezand is the first to turn with their ‘daydream’. This club has been around since 1938. This year the neighborhood takes you into a world between reality and imagination. The car consists of many white and purple colors. In the background, relaxing, fairy -tale music sounds.

It’s a warm day. The organization of the Corso therefore advises visitors to drink well water, not to drink too much alcohol and pay attention with medicines. Also use sunburn and ensure covering clothing.

It is of course also hot for the members of the neighborhoods. One of the cars has looked at it smartly: it is electric and therefore does not have to be pushed.

Along the course there are various water points where you can get water.

As if it wasn’t busy enough yet … The tents in which there is plenty of built must also be demolished. Neighborhood ‘t Stuk started working on this this morning.

“You can stop.” Every neighborhood today wants to hear those words today. The neighborhood that has received the most points from the jury is asked to stop during the second parade. The prices are already ready.

The Dutch police receive support from Belgium today in Zundert. “Zundert is flooded with Flemish tourists today and then recognizability of Belgian agents is nice,” says an agent.

29 degrees and a burning sun: for the visitors nice weather but for the Dahlia it is less. “They are starting to shrink very fast,” says a corso builder. “You’re going to see that at the end of the day.”

Wieteke from Gilze is at the Corso for the tenth year. Already from eleven o’clock is already along the course. “We want the best places and so we see them riding once now that they go to the starting place,” she says. She is at a carnival association herself. “Secretly I always get some inspiration for carnival.” With her back in the sun and lots of water, she and her mother and children get through the hot day.

To get everything, Buurtschap Raamberg worked all night on their ‘Cirque du Planetarium’. “At ten past five this morning the last flower went on,” says one of the members. “I hope people really get a wow feeling, just like us then the car came out of the tent.”

Buurtschap Achtmaal has been participating in the flower parade in Zundert since 1947, but winning? They never did that. “I don’t know where things go wrong,” laughs Lobke Hereijgers. She is 31 years old and that means that she has been walking around at the Achtmaal neighborhood for about 31 years. The fact that there is no profit to their name yet does not really matter to her. “If we turn seventeenth or eighteenth, it is just as big as when we become second or seventh.”
