Farewell to Florian Wirtz was not yet clear at the last game of the season of Bayer Leverkusen. Now he turned to the fans of his ex-club again by video.
Florian Wirtz was delayed, but emotionally said goodbye to Bayer Leverkusen’s fans. In a video that was recorded in the BayArena, the international addresses personal words to the followers of the club – and talks about highlights and setbacks of his time in Leverkusen.
“I would like to thank you for the wonderful time you prepared for me – and for the love you gave me,” says Wirtz in the clip. “I hope you will be master again.”
The 22-year-old had returned to Leverkusen for the video shoot. After the last matchday of the past season, his move to England had not yet stuck. However, it has been clear since the end of June: Wirtz will play for FC Liverpool in the future, which, according to media reports, will pay up to 150 million euros for him.
“Unfortunately, I couldn’t say goodbye to you in the last game,” explains Wirtz in the video. All the happier he was to sit personally in the BayArena again and to address a few words to the fans.
The midfielder looks back at his start in Leverkusen in the video: when he was 16, he came to the club with great dreams. The cruciate ligament rupture in March 2022 was “the biggest setback in my career”, said Wirtz. The German international, on the other hand, describes the championship in the 2023/24 season as the most beautiful moment. “What we have achieved this season is still difficult to grasp. Unbeated masters and with so many points.”
At the end of the video, Wirtz is located in the arena catacombs, grabs his things. Shortly afterwards the door goes behind him. In Liverpool, he is already preparing for the new season.
