Thanks to Florian Wirtz’s next goal, Liverpool FC ultimately achieved clear success in the FA Cup. The DFB star scored 4-1 (2-1) in the third round against English third division club FC Barnsley to make it 3-1.

Wirtz was only sent onto the field after an hour and scored in the 84th minute after a backheel pass from former Frankfurt player Hugo Ekitiké. The Frenchman, for his part, scored the final score in stoppage time thanks to an assist from Wirtz. Dominik Szoboszlai (9th) and Jeremie Frimpong (36th) were included in the statistics as the Premiere League team’s other goalscorers.

“Four wonderful goals,” said coach Arne Slot after the final whistle. “A good win. That’s not the performance, that’s the result. We wanted to get to the next round and we did that.”

Wirtz only scored his first goal for Liverpool shortly before the turn of the year, ending his goal drought since leaving Bayer Leverkusen. The 22-year-old has two goals in the Premier League, and the goal against Barnsley was his third goal in a Reds jersey. His team will now face Brighton in the FA Cup on February 14th.
