The Tour de France is over, exceptional drivers Tadej Pogačar celebrated his fourth victory. But the race was also a success for another – all of Germany now knows Florian Lipowitz.

In football it is the Champions League, the Tour de France in cycling. Once a year, the best drivers in the world compete on the three -week tour. Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard have dominated the tour for the last five times. The star duo is almost unreachable, everyone else fights for the third and last remaining place on the podium. And here a German in 2025 made the sensation: Florian Lipowitz.

The 24-year-old not only became the overall press, he also secured the white jersey for the best young driver. This was only achieved by two Germans – last time Jan Ullrich wore the Jersey 1998. This shows what Lipowitz did. He was able to keep up with Pogačar and Vingegaard at times and even attacked the two. The third place in Lipowitz on the Dauphiné tour in June was also no coincidence, as was the third place on the tour. He sets an exclamation mark – also for the future.

Because in these three weeks Tour de France Lipowitz not only drove in the slipstream. He also risked and dared a lot. His courage was not rewarded, especially at the royal stage, the 18th racing section. However, the native of Baden-Württemberg did not think and dismissed against his direct competitor in the overall classification, Oscar onley.

Just a day later, the German cyclist, who was almost beaten, drove out a lead again. Even his German competitor Maximilian Schachmann titled this in the ARD as a “world class”. Other German professionals also praised Lipowitz. What a great performance – physically, but also mentally.

Stage for stage, the German grew into his unexpected role as a tour surprise. Actually, as a noble assistant for his teammate and Olympic champion Primož Roglič, Lipowitz suddenly became the unspoken captain.

Lipowitz himself publicly strengthened Roglič. He let his actions speak and came across his experienced teammate. On the fourth stage he finished sixth on the first time trial and landed exactly six places in front of Roglič – and from this point on it was also in the overall classification in front of the Slovenen.

After the 12th stage, Lipowitz was fourth, after the 14th stage he was in third place and claimed this rank for the other seven days to the finish. Lipowitz himself is down to earth after the tour success. He explained: “I would never have expected to be able to ride the podium at all.” That sounds modest for someone who has just finished an almost 20 year old German thirst – and can continue to write cycling history.
