After his cardiac arrest, Edoardo Bove was given a defibrillator. This means that the Florence professional is no longer allowed to play in Italy. However, the implant may not last forever.
Italian professional footballer Edoardo Bove has had a defibrillator implanted after his collapse on December 1st. As Gazzetta dello Sport reports, the operation took place at the Careggi Hospital in Florence, where the 22-year-old has been for ten days. The Fiorentina midfielder should be allowed to leave the clinic again by Saturday at the latest.
Bove, who collapsed from cardiac arrest in the game against Inter Milan, is said to be suffering from inflammation of the heart muscle tissue. A decision will be made in a few months as to whether the defibrillator can be removed again. Due to the strict rules in Serie A, Bove is threatened with the end of his sporting career in Italy if he has a permanent implantation.
There was a similar case three years ago. After a cardiac arrest, the Danish national player Christian Eriksen had a defibrillator inserted and his contract with his then club Inter Milan had to be terminated prematurely. The 32-year-old now plays for Manchester United.
