The 22-year-old professional from Florence survived the use of a temporary defibrillator well and will be released from the hospital shortly.

AC Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove has survived the implantation of a temporary defibrillator. As the Serie A club explained in a statement, the 22-year-old is on the mend: “Edoardo has informed us that he is doing well and that he must now continue his post-operative journey before moving on to the next one He will be released from the hospital in a few days.”

According to the Italian newspaper “Gazzetta dello Sport”, Bove could leave the Careggi hospital in Florence as early as Friday. He has been receiving treatment there since December 1st after suffering a cardiac arrest in the league game against Inter Milan.

The medical examinations revealed that Bove was suffering from inflammation of the heart muscle tissue. Whether the defibrillator will remain necessary permanently will only be decided in a few months. If this is the case, Bove would not be able to continue his career in Serie A as Italian football regulations preclude the use of an implanted defibrillator.

A similar case made headlines three years ago. Danish international Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during the 2021 European Championships and also received a defibrillator. As a result, Eriksen had to terminate his contract with Inter Milan. Today the 32-year-old plays in the Premier League for Manchester United.
