Flohé wins Boulder World Cup in Brixen

German climber Yannick Flohé has won the first World Cup of his career.

The athlete from the Aachen section won the bouldering event in Brixen, Italy, and set an exclamation mark two months before the home European Championships in Munich. “It feels like I’ve worked my whole life for it. I’m so glad it worked out today,” said Flohé.

Previously, compatriot Hannah Meul from Frechen had already won silver and thus brought the first German women’s podium in bouldering in seven years. Victory went to top favorite Natalia Grossman from the USA. “I’ve felt all day what I can, that I belong exactly where I want to go and then made my dream come true,” said Meul.

Bouldering is climbing without a safety rope at jump height. The routes, so-called boulders, are often only a few climbing moves long – upwards, sideways or both. The European Climbing Championships will take place in Munich from August 11th to 18th.
