Flick nominates the last DFB squad before the World Cup: Bella Kotchap makes her debut

FC Bayern provides the most players

National coach Hansi Flick has nominated the 24-man squad for the last international matches before the 2022 World Cup. Armel Bella-Kotchap, who switched from VfL Bochum to FC Southampton this summer and is a regular there, is there for the first time. In the Premier League market value update on Thursday, the 20-year-old increased his value from 10 to 16 million euros. The DFB team will meet Hungary in the Nations League next Friday, September 23, and England on the following Monday.

Mario Götze is not there again – but according to Flick, the Eintracht professional who was last nominated in 2017 still has chances for Qatar: “We see his development in Frankfurt. He still has every opportunity to jump on the World Cup train,” said the 57-year-old. The same applies to Mats Hummels and Julian Draxler as well as Oliver Baumann, Jonathan Tah, Karim Adeyemi, Lukas Klostermann, Benjamin Henrichs and Anton Stach, who were not nominated compared to the last internationals in June.

Record champions FC Bayern provide the most professionals. In addition to keeper Manuel Neuer, these come exclusively from midfield and attack: Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich, Thomas Müller, Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sané.

In the defensive network, on the other hand, there are several legionnaires. With Bella-Kotchap, Robin Gosens (Inter Milan), Thilo Kehrer (West Ham) and Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid), half of the eight-man defense is not active in the Bundesliga. There are also three other players, Marc-André ter Stegen (Barcelona), Ilkay Gündogan (Man City) and Kai Havertz (Chelsea), who earn their money abroad.
