Robert Lewandowski actually announced his farewell to the Polish national team. Now he could row back – because the situation has changed significantly.
The reports on the Polish national team roll over – and Robert Lewandowski is back at the center of attention. After national coach Michal Tastics put his post on Thursday morning, according to “Bild” there is initial indications of a possible comeback from the 36-year-old attacker, who now wants to appear again for his country.
It would be the next turn in the current vertebrae for the “white-red”. It was only on Sunday that Lewandowski surprisingly explained his preliminary retreat from the national team. He made his decision clearly to the person of the trainer: As long as a tried and testing was in office, he would no longer play for Poland, said the striker in an Instagram announcement. The impetus for this escalation was a press release by the Polish association, which Lewandowski dismissed as a captain – only 39 minutes later, the striker followed.
In the days after, the attacker of FC Barcelona and the coach, which had now been dismissed, had occurred to an open dump. The international’s criticism, however, went beyond the loss of the bandage. “I am not concerned with the captain’s decision, but about the way of communication. The trainer misused my trust,” he emphasized.
Now, four days after the public break, the situation has apparently changed. After the resignation of Tasty, a return of Lewandowskis to the national team seems possible-possibly as early as September when Poland meets the Netherlands (September 4) and Finland (September 7) in the World Cup qualification. In the 1-2 defeat against Finland on Tuesday, the veteran was not yet there, his team slipped to third place in the qualifying group-a place that was not entitled to participate in the 2026 World Cup in Canada, the USA and Mexico.
