Right-back Sergiño Dest has joined PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie on a season-long loan from FC Barcelona. The Dutch secured a purchase option as part of the deal, but the club did not specify the amount. Dest’s contract with the Catalans runs until 2025.

The native of league competitor Ajax Amsterdam switched to the Catalans in 2020 for 21 million euros, but could not meet expectations there and missed the breakthrough in LaLiga. The US international was loaned out to AC Milan in Italy last season, but he only made 14 league appearances there and was not featured at all after injury problems at the beginning of the year with the Rossoneri.

Dest’s former high of 30 million euros had shrunk to just a third of this amount in the past two years. The 22-year-old has high hopes for his return to the Eredivisie: “PSV was in close contact with me every day and that gave me a good feeling. Also, I think coach Bosz’s style of play really suits me.
