The temperature fell below zero in our province for the first time this season on Sunday night. Frost was measured at all weather stations in our province. It was coldest in Volkel, where the temperature was -1.0 degrees.

This made it colder than expected. “According to the weather models, it would remain just above freezing point,” says weatherman Berend van Straaten from Weerplaza on Monday morning in the radio program KEIgoeiemorgen.

“We are suddenly dealing with a completely different type of weather,” the weatherman explains on the radio. “The temperature is taking a sharp dip this week. It will be considerably colder, especially in the second half of the week. It will take some getting used to.”

According to the weatherman, this Monday will be a chilly and changeable day. “There will be a lot of showers throughout the day. However, between those showers there will also be some dry moments, with occasional sunny periods. In the afternoon it will be 8, locally 9 degrees with a moderate wind.”

“Winter precipitation in the form of hail or sleet is possible.”

More of the same on Tuesday, the weatherman expects:. “Quite a few showers and a comparable temperature of 8 degrees. In the evening and night leading up to Wednesday, a series of heavy showers will pass over the province. Then the temperature will drop to around 2 degrees. That is really on the cold side, but there will be no frost.”

In the second half of the week, according to Van Straaten, it will not be warmer than 5 or 6 degrees during the day. At night it can then freeze slightly from time to time: “If a series of showers passes in the evening and night, this could be accompanied by winter precipitation in the form of hail or perhaps wet snow.
