THEn flames for the second consecutive day: Vast fires in Crete are devastating the area of Ieraperin the south-east of the island, forcing hundreds of residents and tourists to flee. Powered by strong winds, The flames advance on three distinct fronts – Stop, Achlia and Schinokapsala – with columns of smoke visible from kilometers.
Whole settlements, from Agia Photia in Koutsounari, they were evacuated. Many found refuge in the hotel made available by the authorities, others in the municipal gym of Ieraper. The situation is evolving and firefighters work tirelessly to contain the emergency.
