Besiktas have introduced Vincenzo Italiano as their new coach and given him a contract until 2028. The Italian follows former double winner Sergen Yalçın in fourth place in the Süper Lig season. Besiktas, which celebrated its last of 16 championships in 2021, wants to usher in a new era with Italiano.
President Serdal Adalı stated on Saturday: “Today a new era begins for our football club. We would like to share our enthusiasm and goals for this new beginning with the entire community. Unfortunately, I have to say that we were away from sporting success for a long time. To reverse this negative trend, radical decisions and fundamental changes were necessary instead of just trying to save the past.” First of all, the mentality within the club had to be changed. “It’s time to turn the tide for Besiktas. It’s time to throw everything we hold in our hearts onto the pitch for Besiktas.
The club boss described Italiano as a “rising star in European football”. The coach, who was born in Karlsruhe, reached the final of the Conference League twice with Fiorentina. However, his last stop was FC Bologna, where he now made way for Domenico Tedesco. “Italiano has informed the club that after two seasons marked by excellent results, he considers his time in Bologna to be over, regardless of any future professional prospects,” Bologna said in a statement.
