In a house on the Betje Wolfflaan in Amstelveen Bovenkerk, a fire started in the meter cupboard tonight. A lot of smoke was released, causing surrounding homes to be evacuated for a while.

A spokesperson for the fire service told NH that the fire was under control fairly quickly. “The fire probably started in the meter cupboard,” she says. “The residents of the house were already outside and no one was injured.” Firefighters also evacuated several neighboring homes.

The fire caused a lot of damage. One of the gas pipes in the home was also damaged. “Gas is now leaking out, but that is not on fire,” says the spokesman. A specialist from Liander will come to close the gas leak.
