Fire in a retirement home in Hakenfelde on Sunday afternoon. Residents had to leave the rooms. Three people were injured, one of them so bad that he was taken to a hospital.

Initially, there was talk of a “mass attack” of injuries after a fire broke out in one of the rooms on the ground floor.

The fire brigade was deployed with up to 60 men, but the fire was quickly under control. Most of the residents could find shelter in a common room.

A resident – presumably the room occupant where the fire broke out – came to the hospital with severe smoke inhalation. It was not immediately clear whether there was a risk of death. Two other residents were taken to the hospital for observation.

No information was yet available on the cause of the fire.
