A car burned down on the A28 near Hooghalen at the end of the afternoon. This happened after the driver saw smoke under the hood, after which the car was stopped along the emergency lane. The driver was able to secure some items from the car just in time, but was unable to prevent the car from being damaged beyond repair.
The car fire resulted in slow-moving traffic between Beilen and Assen, which eventually led to a kilometer-long traffic jam. How the fire started is still under investigation.
