Good memories for Messi & Co.

The former World Cup host Qatar will host the finalissima between European champions Spain and South American champions Argentina next year. The fourth edition of the prestigious intercontinental event will take place on March 27 (9 p.m. local time) at the Lusail Stadium. This was announced by the European Football Union UEFA.

The competition, organized jointly by UEFA and the South American umbrella organization CONMEBOL, pits the reigning European champions and the current Copa América winners against each other. The duel has so far been played three times at irregular intervals: Argentina has already triumphed twice (1993 and 2022), and France won the premiere in 1985.

The Argentines have very fond memories of the Lusail Stadium, where Lionel Messi and Co. were crowned world champions in the final against France three years ago. Argentina later also won the Copa América by beating Colombia in the final. Spain triumphed at the 2024 European Championship in Germany thanks to a final win against England.
