Carlos Alcaraz won the US Open in New York with an extremely strong performance. Company Jannik Sinner hardly had a chance.
A phenomenal Carlos Alcaraz has stormed to his second US Open title and at the top of the world rankings. Before the eyes of US President Donald Trump, the 22 -year -old Spaniard only shared his permanent rival Jannik Sinner from Italy in the high -class final of New York 6: 2, 3: 6, 6: 1, 6: 4 – and celebrated as the second young man in the Open era (since 1968) its sixth Grand Slam title.
“I see you more than my family”said the Spaniard at the award ceremony in the direction of his opponent with a broad smile on his face.
Alcaraz returns to the throne of the tennis world for the first time since September 2023, which Sinner has to clear after a total of 65 weeks. The two top stars, which are rushed away from the competition, divide up the last eight Grand slam titles fairly.
First bankruptcy after 27 major matches in a row
Alcaraz, who successfully returned to the defeat in the Wimbledon final eight weeks ago and used his third match ball to win after 2:42 hours, a record price money of $ five million.

Sinner, not at its top level for long distances,, on the other hand, missed it as the first man since Roger Federer in 2008 to successfully defend his title in New York. He also lost a major match on hard court for the first time after 27 victories in a row and received the second defeat against Alcaraz within three weeks: he had given up at the Masters in Cincinnati for health reasons.
Only Björn Borg was younger
Sinner and Alcaraz were facing a Grand Slam final for the third time within three months-three endgames in an identical line-up in a row are a novelty in the Open ERA in men’s tennis.
Younger than Alcaraz, who celebrated his first major triumph in Flushing Meadows in 2022, was the Sixth Grand Slam title alone of the Swede Björn Borg.
Trump visit provided delay
The game started with a whopping 49 minutes late, due to the visit to Trump, the security measures in the Usta Billie Billie Jean King National Tennis Center had been massively raised – which led to delays when the almost 24,000 fans were entered.
Trump showed himself in a box with a red tie and saw a much better beginning of Alcaraz. The Spaniard set early exclamation marks with a powerful baseline tennis and some magic strokes, Sinner did not yet look on the height and made an unusually many mistakes.
The momentum changed
After 38 minutes the first round went to Alcaraz. Sinner subsequently woke up, secured an early break and looked more and more secure. Suddenly it was Alcaraz who made mistakes – and gave the second set quite without a chance.
The momentum fluctuated back and forth, at the beginning of the third round Alcaraz pressed the pace again. After spectacular points, he took the audience with him, Sinner struggled unusually emotionally and hit his racket onto the floor – but turned at least a bitter 0: 6 in the third set.
After a break, Alcaraz was no longer stopped in the fourth set.
