VfL Wolfsburg has to cope with another serious departure in summer. Ex-national player Marina Hegering will turn her back on the Bundesliga club after three years and switch to the 1st FC Köln. Four other actors had already announced their farewell in front of her.
“There were so many arguments that were convincing for me to switch to the 1. FC Cologne. I like the club and used to live in Cologne. I like the city scary, people are very special and the love of sport is noticeably great here. The anticipation of summer is huge for me,” said Hegering. Due to the change to the cathedral city, she is very close to her home Bocholt.
In terms of sport, the change to “effzeh” comes as a surprise. Because while the 42-time international with the “wolf” is second in the table on Champions League course, Cologne ranks the penultimate. Only the turbine Potsdam, which is turbine, is even worse than the Rhinelanders. Because of the increase in the Bundesliga for the new season on 14 teams, only one club will descend in this series.
VfL Holt Dutchin Levels from Bayer Leverkusen
So Hegering will meet Cologne on Wolfsburg in the coming season. And thus also on her successor at VfL, Janou Levels. The 24-year-old changes from Bayer Leverkusen to the Allerpark. The Dutchman has been playing at the Werkelf since 2023. “For me, Wolfsburg is the next step, and I’m looking forward to this new challenge. I hope that I can develop here and at the same time help the team with my qualities,” says Levels.
Ralf Kellermann, director of women’s football at the Wolfsburg factory club, was optimistic that Levels will quickly be able to gain a foothold in the Autostadt: “Anyone who sees Janou on the square quickly realizes that it has an outstanding mentality. This fits perfectly in the way we want to perform as VfL Wolfsburg.”
Five entrances and exits already fixed
According to the keepers Stina Johannes (Eintracht Frankfurt) and Martina Tufekovic (TSG Hoffenheim) and the attackers Cora Zica (SC Freiburg) and Sharn Freier (Brisbane Roar), Levels is the fifth fixed newcomer for the upcoming series. So far, the departures of goalkeeper Merle Frohms, Jule Brand (goal still unknown), Tabea Sellner and Kristin Demann (both career end) and Hegering.
