The national suspension of Marc Overmars due to inappropriate behavior during his period as technical director at Ajax is being implemented globally. The media department of world football association FIFA announced this in an email on Tuesday NRC know. This means that he can no longer exercise his current position as technical director of the Belgian club Royal Antwerp FC (for the time being).
In mid-November, Overmars was suspended for two years by the disciplinary committee of the Sports Jurisdiction Institute, of which one year was conditional. As a result, he was not allowed to hold a position at Dutch football organizations for at least a year. This had no direct consequences at that time because Overmars works in Belgium.
But, as prescribed by the regulations, the Dutch football association KNVB transferred the national ruling to the FIFA disciplinary committee. After Overmars did not appeal against the national punishment, it was up to this body to decide whether the punishment should be adopted internationally.
