Fierce election debate about nitrogen: ‘Why is there so much unrest in society?’

It was passed on like a hot potato, but the cabinet is now continuing and the provinces can no longer escape it. Nitrogen emissions must be reduced and the provincial authorities are given an important role in this. But the parties are still far apart when it comes to implementation, according to the RTV Drenthe election debate.

For example, forced buy-out of farmers is a bridge too far for a number of parties. Henk Jumelet (CDA) thinks that there is already a lot to be gained from innovation and bit off a number of times.

“Why is there so much unrest in society?” he cynically asked his opponents. “We talk about them, but let’s listen carefully, because that has not happened enough. We can go a long way with innovation. And stop talking about forced buyouts, that is not the CDA’s way,” he emphasized.
