The FIA has reached an agreement in principle on adjustments to the engine regulations in Formula 1 for 2027. The most important change: the combustion engine will receive more power, while the electrical part will be scaled back slightly.

Due to new rules that have applied since this year, the ratio between combustion engine and electric motor is approximately equal. This resulted in a lot of criticism. A number of adjustments were already made in April to make racing safer and more spectacular.

The plans for 2027 were discussed on Tuesday during consultations between the FIA, the teams and engine manufacturers. Drivers also provided input in the development of the proposal, the FIA said in a statement.

The international motorsport federation emphasizes that further technical discussions are needed before the package is finalized. Special working groups will be set up for this purpose with representatives from teams and engine manufacturers.
