Melissa Vargas passed Turkish citizenship in 2021. The Serbian National Team wanted to include Vargas in its squad. For this reason, Serbia also took some steps towards granting citizenship. However, Vargas chose to become a citizen of the Republic of Turkey. Yıldız had stated that she was looking forward to wearing the A National Women’s Volleyball Team uniform and that she would do her best for the Turkish National Team.


Vargas filled the waiting period to play for the National Team. In the FIVB Nations League, which will start at the end of May, Vargas will be able to wear the crescent-star jersey if head coach Daniele Santarelli is included in the squad.

Volleyball Nations League, organized by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), will start on 30 May. Turkey will undertake the hosting of the organization in Antalya in the first week. The Sultans of the Net will face the teams of Italy, USA, Serbia, Thailand, Poland, South Korea and Canada in the first week matches to be played between May 30 and June 4, 2023.
