Mayor Halsema responded on Instagram to the call of LGBT organization Love Y/Our History! To honor the presenter who died in 2007.
Queer Community chooses Jos Brinkstraat in Amsterdam
‘More heroes from the queer community’
Femke Halsema calls the proposal ‘a wonderful initiative’, also because she considers it important that Amsterdammers recognize themselves in their street names.
Halsema takes immediate steps, she says: “Together with the street names advisory board I am looking for a street to name Jos Brink. We will also make an effort to have more heroes from the queer community return to our streets.”
Jos Brink was one of the first openly homosexual presenters who knew our country. He also worked as a pastor and was a buddy and dying supervisor. He died at the age of 65 from the effects of cancer.
