Long-time Bundesliga coach Felix Magath, including a double winner with FC Bayern and champion with VfL Wolfsburg, may be facing a sensational comeback on the sidelines. The 71-year-old is traded in Turkey.
Around two and a half years after his last position at Hertha BSC, Felix Magath could celebrate his return as coach at the top Turkish club Besiktas. This is what “Bild” reports.
Accordingly, there was already contact between the Aschaffenburg and Istanbul clubs about a possible collaboration.
In June, the traditional club was taken over by Dutch icon Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who made 106 international appearances in his career and then worked as a coach at his hometown club Feyenoord, at Guangzhou City from China and the Rangers from Glasgow. However, van Bronckhorst had to resign again at the end of November – it was the third coaching dismissal in just twelve months.
Besiktas is holding talks with coaching candidates
Besiktas then always used Serdar Topraktepe as an interim solution, who was able to stabilize the club in his third interlude. Only one of the six games in the SüperLig under his leadership was lost, and the prestigious derby victory against Fenerbahce (1-0) was also achieved. On Saturday, Besiktas also celebrated a 2-1 win against Bodrum FK, meaning the team has now moved up to fifth place and is keeping an eye on international business.
According to club president Serdal Adali, who was elected at the end of December, a new permanent solution in the coaching bench will soon be found. “There are many names regarding possible coaches, we had phone calls and video calls,” “Bild” quotes the new Besiktas boss. He did not reveal whether Felix Magath was also spoken to.
Magath was recently a candidate for third division club SpVgg Unterhaching, but the 71-year-old declined after discussions.
