Union Berlin now has more than 50,000 members – and has gained a special new member for the milestone.

The newborn son of Union promotion hero Felix Kroos, Theo, got the membership number 50,000, as the Berliners announced on Tuesday evening.

The baby was born on January 20 of this year, Union Berlin was founded on the same date in 1966. Felix Kroos, brother of former world champion Toni, and his wife Lisa filled out the membership card on the day of the birth, it said.

The family could be seen in a video that Union posted on Twitter. Father Felix wore a Union scarf, son Theo a jersey.

“Of course I’m very pleased that Theo’s membership card has this special number. We didn’t plan his birthday or his membership number that precisely, but we hit both perfectly,” said Felix Kroos.

The 31-year-old played for the Irons from 2016 to 2020 and was promoted to the Bundesliga with them in 2019.
