FC Volendam lost against Sparta in a disappointing home match

FC Volendam lost the home game against Sparta 4-1. In a fairly tame match, FC Volendam was inferior to Sparta. Things went wrong for Matthias Kohler’s team, especially in the final phase.

FC Volendam fell behind early in the match. Bart Vriends headed in and FC Volendam keeper Mio Backhaus did not look good. The home team soon leveled the score thanks to a beautiful goal from Milan de Haan from outside the box: 1-1.

Counter

After the lively initial phase, the game slumped. After half an hour of play, De Haan had a nice long shot in the legs. The midfielder’s attempt went just wide. Towards half-time, Calvin Twigt had a nice chance from the rebound, but his shot was blocked.

Just before half time, FC Volendam was defeated. Johsua Kitolano put the 1-2 on the scoreboard from a counter. That was also the halftime score.

At the start of the second half there was little going on in the Volendam stadium. In the 61st minute, De Haan had the ball to shoot in, but his attempt went wide. Fifteen minutes later, substitute Kuol came close to the equalizer with a shot from inside the sixteen.

The Rotterdam team also did not achieve much, but that changed in the final phase. First, a header from Charles-Andreas Brym was saved by Backhaus. Moments later, Sparta ended the match. Vriends was able to tap the ball in. Arno Verschueren made it all worse by putting the 1-4 on the scoreboard.

Volendam setup: Backhaus; Neighbor (Payne/63), Benamar, Flint, Cox; Mirani, Twigt, De Haan; Ould-Chikh (Booth/64), Mühren, Johnson (Kuol/63)
