FC Volendam loses without a chance against SC Heerenveen

FC Volendam did not manage to beat SC Heerenveen at home. The score was 0-4 thanks to goals from Pelle van Amersfoort (two), Simon Olsson and Thom Haye.

The situation is becoming more dire by the week for FC Volendam. Especially knowing that competitor Vitesse was too strong for Excelsior (1-2) earlier on Sunday. The last victory dates back to mid-December against Heerenveen. The Frisians were the opponent in Volendam on Sunday evening. The first setback happened before the match; Bilal Ould-Chikh was absent due to flu. The attacker saw from the bench that Pelle van Amersfoort opened the score within fifteen minutes.

Thom Haye provided the assist with a delicate pass and Van Amersfoort outwitted goalkeeper Mio Backhaus. Moments earlier, the German had taken Haye’s free kick from the intersection. In the remainder of the first half, Backhaus ensured that the score remained 0-1, despite great opportunities for Osame Sahraoui and Van Amersfoort. Volendam once became dangerous through Robert Mühren, who forced Mickey van der Hart to save with a volley.

The only glimmer of hope the home team had left seemed to disappear immediately in the second half. Pawel Bochniewicz headed home from a corner. However, the Pole’s goal was disallowed for offside and Volendam got away well. It turned out to be a stay of execution for the Eel farmers. Simon Olsson made it 0-2 after 66 minutes from a rebound from a Sahraoui bet.

Volendam was so upset that the ball was also in the net during the next attack: 0-3. The resistance of the Volendam people was broken and it was mainly a matter of waiting. By the way, Heerenveen ended the match with ten men after a rash foul by Espen van Ee on George Cox. In the final phase, Haye poured even more proverbial salt into Volendam’s wounds with a brilliant goal (0-4).

The defeat leaves Volendam stuck in last place. Vitesse is three points ahead. For Volendam, NEC will be the next opponent next Friday (8 p.m.) and you can follow that match live in NH Sport on the radio.
