The case goes back to September 2022, when Dutch suspects were arrested near Van Quickenborne’s house in Kortrijk after firearms, among other things, were found in a vehicle. According to information from the drug environment, a kidnapping of the then Minister of Justice was planned.
Lawyer Jan Leysen remains convinced that Van Quickenborne was the intended target. According to him, the investigation shows that no other possible targets were considered and the description from the tip corresponded to the then Minister of Justice. “There is only one Minister of Justice with glasses who lives in Kortrijk,” he said after the hearing.
