FC Volendam is taking measures: away fans Cambuur banned after previous misconduct

According to the triangle (Public Prosecution Service, police and mayor), there are no police supporter escorts who travel with SC Cambuur supporters. The fans of the Frisian club have misbehaved several times in recent times. “This behavior has led to the decision of the Northern Netherlands Unit to no longer send supporter supervisors to away games,” says the municipality. “Because of this there is none view of the supporters from Leeuwarden. And without a view of who the supporters are, it is not clear who is where in Volendam. This poses a security risk.”

According to Lieke Sievers, mayor of Edam-Volendam, barring away supporters is an extreme measure. “Ultimately, we want nothing more than safe and hospitable football in Volendam. And that everyone can visit the matches. That is what we stand for together. It is and remains our starting point. But unfortunately this is under considerable pressure and can only be achieved if no one commits or permits excesses and everyone takes responsibility to address misconduct.”

FC Volendam’s next home game is against PSV on Sunday 16 April. The away supporters of the Eindhoven team can simply travel along. The number thirteen in the Eredivisie will play four more home games this season. Next weekend, the team of trainer Wim Jonk will visit sc Heerenveen.
