FC Volendam did excellent business tonight in its own stadium. Young Ajax was defeated 3-1, so there is a chance that The New Orange can promote to the Eredivisie on Friday.
The match started disastrously for FC Volendam, as it was 0-1 within three minutes. Naci Ünüvar snatched the ball from Benaissa Benamar and advanced. The attacker slipped, but still found the detached Christian Rasmussen. The Dane scored from the ground.
It turned out to be the start of a very lively first half. FC Volendam had several chances to equalize. The biggest was for Gaetano Oristanio who shot wide in front of goalkeeper Calvin Raatsie. The sold-out stadium was able to cheer in the 27th minute. Daryl van Mieghem was knocked down in the sixteen by Nordin Musampa. Robert Mühren used the penalty: 1-1.
Red card helps FC Volendam
Just before half time, the game was practically decided by referee Sander van Eijk. He thought that Jong Ajax captain Enric Llansana brought down the broken Mühren and gave a red card. There was contact, but there seemed to be no violation.
With one man more, Volendam had a problem-free second half. Oristanio completed the ball in the 51st minute on a pass from assist king Van Mieghem. The left winger has already prepared fourteen goals from Volendam this season.
Mühren makes his 27th of the season
Despite a few missed opportunities, the North Holland meeting was decided in the 74th minute. Substitute BIlal Ould-Chikh outplayed two opponents, crossed the backline and gave a measured cross to Mühren. The striker only had to tap the ball in: 3-1. The only blemish for FC Volendam was the failure of Benamar (head injury) and Visser (calf injury).

With three games to play, FC Volendam has seven points more than number three FC Eindhoven. ADO Den Haag can come to six points on Tuesday if it wins the make-up match against Jong PSV. After 26 minutes, that game was stopped last month because the power went out. The people of Eindhoven are ahead 1-0. On Friday, the wide-leg pants will play against FC Den Bosch.
