FC St. Pauli moves training from Kollau to Mallorca

Surprising travel plans at FC St. Pauli: The football team is going to the Balearic Islands for training purposes.

FC St. Pauli says goodbye: Next Monday (February 12th) the team will board the plane and move training to the Balearic island of Mallorca for five days. The Kiezkickers are back just in time for the next home game against Eintracht Braunschweig on Sunday, February 18th.

According to the “Abendblatt”, the team is scheduled to leave in the afternoon and stay at the Steigenberger Hotel in Camp de Mar for the next five days. From there, the team should be able to train on the grounds of RCD Mallorca, which is threatened with relegation.

Rain softens space

The trigger for the surprising short trip is the condition of the training area on Kollaustrasse. The rain of the past few weeks has taken a toll on the lawn. “I’ve seen better places,” replied Connor Metcalfe smugly to the “Abendblatt’s” question. Mud and puddles have largely replaced the green, and large areas of deep mud have appeared in front of the gates. FC St. Pauli’s fast, pass-intensive game in particular is difficult to train in this way.

Other Hamburg clubs are also currently struggling with the mud, such as Teutonia 05 and Eimsbütteler TV. HSV has it better: six training fields are available, including a hybrid turf.

As FC St. Pauli announced on Platform Until then, there’s still one thing ahead of the pitch: Firstly, St. Pauli will still have to train there for the away game in Magdeburg on Saturday. And on the other hand, heavy downpours are forecast again for Thursday and Friday.
