FC Schalke 04: Worries about Simon Terodde

On Saturday (8:30 p.m.) FC Schalke 04 finally wants to turn things around in the 2nd Bundesliga. After the relegated team only collected four points from the previous five games, they are now looking for their second win of the season against surprise team 1. FC Magdeburg. Captain Simon Terodde, of all people, is causing new worry lines for those responsible for S04.

As FC Schalke reported, the goalscorer was missing from team training on Monday. Licensed player manager Gerald Asamoah confirmed to the “Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung” that it was a precautionary measure as Terodde was once again complaining about muscular problems.

“He got a blow to his calf. That’s why Simon is only cycling in the hall today. We know Simon’s calf, he’s had problems with it several times,” Asamoah was quoted as saying. Only developments over the course of the training week will show whether the record scorer in the 2nd Bundesliga could actually miss the home game against Magdeburg.

Should Terodde have to pass, Sebastian Polter is the first backup available. The center forward is eager to make his first starting eleven of the season anyway and has only been substituted on three times to date.

While Terodde currently has two goals this season, Polter is still waiting for his first goal in 2023/2024 for FC Schake. In last Friday’s 4-2 friendly win over third division team SSV Ulm, the 31-year-old showed a promising performance with a goal and two assists.

In addition to Polter, youngster Niklas Castelle also wants to recommend himself during this training week. The striker from the regional league reserves (who has already scored four times there) was also allowed to play in Ulm and scored to make it 2-0 for the S04.

“He has brought a breath of fresh air and should now stay with us. He really deserves to be there,” Asamoah told “WAZ”.
