As the “kicker” reports, FC Schalke 04 is considering two return campaigns. Accordingly, the names of Darko Churlinov and Steven Skrzybski were discussed in the Royal Blue leadership.
Sports director André Hechelmann emphasized to the specialist magazine that one is fundamentally open to comebacks from former players.
“It always depends. I would never rule them out. I think you have to think about it when you feel that the player fits what you’re planning,” said the 38-year-old, but also emphasized: “Just because it worked once doesn’t mean that you have to try to go the same way again.”
Churlinov was loaned to FC Schalke 04 by VfB Stuttgart in the 2021/2022 season. After his return to the Swabians, he was sold to FC Burnley for 3.5 million euros. However, the 22-year-old hardly played a role in the newly promoted English team and was only used in 13 competitive games.
It’s no secret that Churlinov wants to switch back to FC Schalke. “Everyone who knows Darko knows that he belongs to Schalke and wants to play there,” adviser Mehmet Eser recently clarified to “WAZ”.
According to “kicker”, the miners want to wait and see how Churlinov recovers from his blood poisoning, which put his life in danger.
Will Steven Skrzybski return to FC Schalke 04?
Skrzybski moved from Union Berlin to FC Schalke 04 in 2018. The striker left the Knappen in 2021 and joined Holstein Kiel. His contract with the North Germans only runs until 2024.
Last season, the 30-year-old impressed with the Storks with 15 goals and seven assists in 34 league games. He never came close to such scorer values in Gelsenkirchen.
In 32 competitive games for Schalke, Skrzybski scored four goals and recorded five assists.
In addition to Churlinov and Skrzybski, striker Bryan Lasme was recently traded from Arminia Bielefeld to FC Schalke 04.
