Diogo Jota died in a car accident at the age of 28. Now Liverpool Captain Virgil van Dijk mourns the club’s striker.
More and more people mourn for Diogo Jota: After the fatal car accident of the Liverpool striker, “Reds” captain Virgil van Dijk has contacted the public with moving words. In an Instagram post, the Dutch was deeply shaken about the death of his teammate.
Van Dijk wrote that he couldn’t believe it and didn’t want to believe it. He was “absolutely destroyed and totally incredulous”. Jota was not only an outstanding player, but above all “an incredible family man”.
The Portuguese international has “so much means” everyone at the club and will continue to “do this,” emphasized Van Dijk. The loss for the closest relatives weighed particularly hard: that Jota’s family “loses two sons, a husband and a father is simply unimaginable. So cruel and unfair.”
Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva had an accident on Thursday night in the northern Spanish province of Zamora. According to reports, there was probably an accident due to a burst tire. The vehicle broke through a guardrail and caught fire. Any help came too late for both brothers.
In England there is speculation that FC Liverpool Jotas jersey number 20 is no longer awarded in honor of the deceased. The club wrote in a homage to the Portuguese that number 20 was “immortalized”.
Van Dijk should support the idea. “Forever a champion, forever number 20. It was a privilege on which the square was at your side and your friend was away,” wrote the 33-year-old. “We will miss you incredibly and never forget you. Your legacy will live on, we will take care of it!”
